Self-Hypnosis Techniques - Eye Catalepsy
The eye catalepsy technique uses a bit of a double bind. During a session, you ask a subject to close their eyes so tightly that they wouldn't be able to open their eyes even if they wanted to. Give them this suggestion several time in slightly different ways, then ask them to try to open their eyes even though their eyes are shut so tight that opening them would be next to impossible. As they attempt to open their eyes while making sure to keep them shut tight, their eyelids are very likely to tremble slightly, simulating REM sleep. Once you give them the suggestion to stop trying to open their eyes, give them a suggestion to relax even deeper. This can be a very effective hypnosis technique.
