5 Keys to Successful Self-Hypnosis
Ultimately, whatever success you have with your self-hypnosis projects will be determined by you. And while having a good mp3 or cd to listen to can certainly help, in the end, you're the one who will be responsible for your success. How so? A dozen people with similar issues will listen to the same mp3. While some will succeed, some won't. So, why the different outcomes? Because some people are better prepared to succeed than others. The good news is, anyone can prepare themselves to succeed. This preparation requires developing an understanding of the basic keys to success when practicing self-hypnosis, and then utilizing those keys. The following is a list of five keys to success for self-hypnosis.
Nothing gets created without desire being present. Desire is the driving force behind creation. Everything you see in the world around you is the result of desire being present.
The stronger your desire, the better chance you have of creating the change you want to make, and the better chance you have of overcoming the old programming and any negative thoughts that go along with that old programming. When you have a strong desire to make a change, your subconscious mind is far more likely to go along with your desired change. More often than not, your success will be mirrored by the level of your desire. A powerful desire is the starting point for a successful self-hypnosis project.
Once a powerful desire is present, then the next key involves getting the message behind your desire across to your subconscious mind. To create successfully, you have to develop a clear and highly focused intention of what it is you want to create or change. And then you need to craft your imaginative thoughts and focus your energy to support your desires and give shape to them. Which leads us to the next key.
2. Focusing Your Imaginative Thoughts
In order to effectively create what you want, you have to have a clear, focused idea of what it is you want to create. You have to take your desire and mold it into a clear intention. Then you have to use your imagination to get the message of that clear intention across to your subconscious mind. This is critical. How do we use our imagination to get the message across to our subconscious? We use images/visualizations in conjunction with thoughts and feelings (energy) to effectively convey our message to our subconscious.
Let's look at an example. Let's say you want to be more confident in social situations. How do you get that message across to your subconscious? Actually, it's fairly simple. Imagine yourself in those social situations feeling comfortable and confident. Imagine yourself being exactly who you want to be in those circumstances. Keep in mind that your subconscious mind doesn't differentiate between real events and imaginary ones. The more you picture yourself being confident in social situations, the more that reaction to social settings becomes an embedded pattern of behavior. Now if you practice self-hypnosis and visualize this new behavior just a few times, you're not likely to have much success. But if you do it 20 or 30 times or more, you're much more likely to succeed.
There's also another aspect of this type of issue that should be addressed. It's important to have some idea where your lack of confidence originated from. What is its root cause? Did it come from some teenage awkwardness or some embarrassing situations? Or did you learn early on in life to focus on your shortcomings rather than your positive characteristics. Whatever the original cause, again, you can use visualizations to reimagine those events with a different outcome (the outcome you would have liked to have had happen). Keep in mind that there are other techniques that can be used to deal with these types of issues. Hypnotic EFT, which combines Emotional Freedom Technique with hypnosis, is one such technique.
No matter what your issue might be, get clear on exactly what you want to create or change and then focus your imaginative thoughts (images/visualizations, thoughts, and feelings) on the outcome you want to create.
3. Cultivating Faith in Your Creative Nature
One of the most important keys to succeeding with your self-hypnosis projects is cultivating faith in your creative nature. We all have creative ability. As a matter of fact, creating is what we do. It's all we do. And whether you're able to create exactly what you want or not, you're still creating. The challenge is to become more effective at creating exactly what you want to create.
When you have complete faith in your creative nature, you can't help but be an effective self-hypnotist. So, how do we develop that kind of faith? Maybe the most simple and effective method is by developing an awareness of what you've already created in your life. Notice where you live and what kind of a job you have, notice who's in your life (friends, family, coworkers), notice the things you've surrounded yourself with. Whether you're happy with them or not, you're the one who's created their presence in your life. Also, take notice of your creative successes and learn to feel confident about your creative abilities. And even if you feel you've failed when it comes to creating, realize that you created those failures. By realizing that you create it all, and by taking responsibility for your creations, you take an important step toward becoming a more effective creator.
Once you've accepted responsibility for your creations, focus in on those things you excel at creating. And ask yourself why you excel at creating that specific thing. Maybe it's relationships, maybe you make friends easily, maybe it's making money, maybe you dress well, maybe your exceptional at playing and winning games. Whatever you're good at creating, begin to examine your thoughts and feelings about that creative area and notice your level of confidence in your ability to create that specific thing. More often than not, you're going to have a high level of confidence when it comes to creating in that area. You may even take your ability for granted. And what you really want to do is to bottle that feeling of confidence and use it in all your creative endeavors. And remember to acknowledge and celebrate your successes. The more you focus on your successes, the more your confidence and faith in your creative nature and ability will grow.
And understand this, everyone has faith. But where have you placed it? Have you placed your faith in your ability to create what you want or are you focusing on your inability to create what you want. Wherever you've placed your faith, you can always choose to refocus your faith on your successful experiences. Revel in your successes and learn to cultivate your faith, because your success in creating what you want will largely be determined by your faith in your creative ability.
4. Be Committed
Think of commitment as an unwavering resolve to reach your goals. A resolve that's highly focused yet not too serious. And there's a reason for that: Have you ever tried to think of the name of an actor, but you can't quite think of his or her name. And the more you try to think of the actor's name, the more difficult it becomes to remember the name. But sometime in the next day or so, as you're relaxing on the couch or in a comfy chair, the name of the actor suddenly pops up in your mind. The actor's name had been in your subconscious mind all the while, but your subconscious didn't respond until you were relaxed. The more you stress about something, the less likely you are to have success where your subconscious mind is concerned. But when you relax, your subconscious mind opens up and allows an uninhibited flow of information. The same is true where your creative projects are concerned. The more you stress about what you want to create and the more you try to force your subconscious to go to work for you, the less likely you are to be successful. Where your creative endeavors are concerned, learn to relax and lighten up and have faith in your creative nature. Be persistent in your efforts and consistent in your belief that you're going to succeed. If it takes months to create what you want, then be committed to the timeframe necessary to create what you're choosing to create. Know that your goals are achievable. Know that you're going to succeed. And never ever give up.
5. Readiness to Act
Be ready to act when the opportunity arises. Learn to be aware of the opportunities presented to you whenever you're working on a self-hypnosis project. Often times, we fail to realize our dreams or desires because we fail to recognize opportunities when they show up. Why? Because some of us have a tendency to fixate on exactly how our desires are going to show up and what they're going to look like when they get here. And when they don't show up the way we imagined they would, we end up disappointed and think we've failed. Here's an example of how that might play out.
Let's say you are looking for the perfect mate. You create a nice little self-hypnosis script for yourself that perfectly describes your perfect mate and suggests that you will meet this person and develop a relationship. And let's say there is someone in your life that you have decided must be the person you've been looking for all this time. But here's the fly in the ointment--this person has no romantic interest in you whatsoever. And while you're focusing all your attention on this person, another person, who perfectly fits what you've asked for and who is looking for someone just like you, shows up in your life. But you're still so focused on it being the person you think it has to be, that you don't even notice when your perfect mate walks into your life. Opportunity gone.
Remember, Creation works in mysterious ways. Your creations won't always show up exactly as you imagine they will. Just be aware of that and keep your eye out for the opportunities that show up and be ready to act on them.
There is a key I haven't mentioned that is at the heart of hypnosis. And it's so simple, I took it for granted. And that's relaxation. Be relaxed and focused. Being relaxed opens up the gateway to the subconscious. Being focused drives home the message you want to convey to your subconscious mind. When you listen to a self-hypnosis recording, give in to the relaxation and become focused on the suggestions to the exclusion of all else. The more relaxed and focused you are, the more successful you'll be.
As for the five keys mentioned above, always begin with desire. Desire is the starting point in creating what you want. If your desire is strong enough, then you're on your way. The next step involves getting very clear on exactly what it is you want to create and then using your imaginative thoughts and feelings to get your desired message across to your subconscious mind (that's where hypnosis come in). The most important part of that message is your belief (your faith) that you're going to be successful in creating what you want. And the best way to get that message across to your subconscious is by emulating the self-confident feelings that accompany successful creating. Remember, you know that feeling from your own experiences. Everyone has had successes in creating one thing or another. By your willingness to believe in your success and by cultivating that unwavering resolve to succeed, you give yourself a great opportunity to be successful.
